Rosch Immunotherapy F.A.Q.

Patient Badge Scanning:

Symptom:
Scanner doesn't beep and have a green status light when powered on.
Resolution:
Scanner unit needs replaced.

Symptom:
Scanner doesn't beep when patient badge is swiped.
Resolution:
Open Immunotherapy and select Identification from the Patient menu. Search for the patient and re-print the Identification bar code. Retry swiping the badge with a newly printed label. If scanner still doesn't beep, contact Rosch Visionary Systems Technical Support to verify the scanner configuration.

Symptom:
Scanner beeps, but no Sign-in notification is diplayed.
Resolution:
The scanner beeps indicate that the badge was recognized. If there are no errors and the patient is not added to the waiting list, the scanner communication settings may need adjusted.

From a Sign-in Station:
  • Move the mouse to the top of the screen until the File menu appears then select File then Setup
  • Verify the input type selected is Serial Port
  • The number entered for the Serial Port must match the communications port number the scanner is plugged into on the system(typically port 1)
  • The communication settings must match the settings of the scanner. The setting of 9600, n, 7, 1 will work for most scanners.
  From Immunotherapy:
  • Select View then Options from the menu at the top. Select the Sign In tab. Verify the input type is Serial Port.
  • Verify this station will provide sign-in capabilities is checked (Note: this option should only be checked if this system is NOT running Sign-in Station)
  • The number entered for the Port must match the communications port number the scanner is plugged into on the system (typically port 1)
  • The communication settings must match the settings of the scanner. The setting of 9600,n,7,1 will work for most scanners.
If the problem persists, contact technical support to verify the communication settings of the scanner.

Symptom:
An invalid badge number message is diplayed.
Resolution:
Immunotherapy patients can sign-in at their assigned injection office. If they attempt to sign-in elsewhere, an invalid badge number message will be displayed. To verify the patient's assigned injection office, open Immunotherapy and open the patient's record. Click the Other category on the right side of the Patient Information Screen and verify the Injection Office matches the office the patient is signing into (the office assignment can be determined by the Local Office field on the Mixing table of the Settings form - Options Menu).

Label Printing:

Symptom:
Vial labels or patient identification badges are selected for printing, but nothing prints.
Resolution1:
The label printer has not been configured within Immunotherapy. Select View then Options from the top menu. Select the Printers Tab. Use the dropdown to verify/select the correct label printer name.
Resolution2:
If you are running Windows 2000 with Service Pack 3 as your operating system, then install Service Pack 4 to resolve the printing issue.

Symptom:
Labels are printing, but have text only printed on them instead of bar codes and text.
Resolution:
The label printer was installed incorrectly (ie... the Cognitive drivers were installed). The label printer is printing the control language instead of the expected results. Click on the Windows Start Menu, then select Printers and Faxes. Verify the label printer was installed with the Generic-Text Only printer driver. If not, remove the printer and re-install with teh Generic-Text Only printer driver.

Symptom:
The printer is printing correctly, but spools out blank labels after every label is printed.
Resolution:
The printer needs calibrated. Type the following text into Notepad:

!0 0 0 0
VARIABLE INDEX SETTING 0
VARIABLE FEED_TYPE GAP
VARIABLE INDEX SETTING CALIBRATE
VARIABLE WRITE
END

From Notepad, select print and choose the label printer. The label printer lights will blink and several labels may spool out. When the printer returns to the ready state, power off the printer for 15 seconds and turn it back on to complete the calibration process.

NOTE: The above text must be printed from Notepad. Other word processing applications like Wordpad, Microsoft Word, etc. add formatting control characters that will prevent the printer from processing the calibration. Notepad can usually be found on the Start->Programs->Accessories Menu.
